Lots of factors. I took mine at 68, could have waited till 70 as I was working and surely didn't need the income, so just put it back into the 401. I assure you I have never been a desk jockey as mentioned below, still trapping complaint beaver and pulling beaver dams in my 70's. My wife will take hers at 62, wants to work less, making less than the new limit of $22,300. Just thinking. If she waited till 70 she would get 50% more, but if inflation is at 5% that would shrink buying power by 40% so she might gain but 10%? Not really worth it as now she will have lots of time and freedom.

Is it two years back from when you file for Medicare? Example: You retire from your six-figure job and live off your savings/investments for 3 years prior to your 65th birthday then the computation would be based on your reduced income...correct?

My wife took 100% teachers' retirement at age 55. I took 100% SS at 62. We have enough retirement income that we max out a ROTH IRA with our retirement income every year. By doing this our daughter will basically be the beneficiary of both my wife's teachers' retirement and my SS. Also, I am on track to earn $36K in dividends in 2024. Financial advisors have nothing on me..

I completely understand that the big plus for Supplement Plans over Advantage is that you don't need pre-authorizations, that is whatever the doctor decides you need, you can get it. But may I offer the opposite side of the coin: Don't you want the insurance company to act as a "check and balance" to review the doctor's decision? After all, aren't you afraid that the doctor might order unnecessary procedures on you so they can make money? Don't doctors also have financial motives in their decisions?

Thank you I turned 65 in April but am in excellent health and am still employed full-time in U.S. aerospace defense. I have great insurance. When I turn 67 I can work full time and collect full Social Security with no penalty! If my great health continues I desire to work until I'm 72 (bank all extra money) then retire! How do I handle Medicare then?? Blessings to you for any answer you may give!!

Hi Rachel! As long as your employer has more than 20 employees and your insurance is employer-sponsored, you won't have to do anything with Medicare until you retire and leave that insurance. At that point, you will have your employer complete the L564 form to submit with your Part B application to prove you had creditable coverage.

  • @05645ci

None of us have any idea when we are going to die, so every year you wait, you lose that money forever. Much depends on how you feel about your work when you reach your early 60's; if you are happy working and making good money, you might want to put in another year or two; if you are stressed out, don't like work anymore, and you have enough saved to retire, then do so. All this equivocating about a few bucks per year is ridiculous if you aren't counting pennies. Believe you me, this first day you are retired, work is over and you are on permanent vacation. I don't even want to think about waiting to retire; then as soon as you do so, your health goes away, and you got no time to enjoy it. Work ain't fun for most; retire as soon as you can afford it, and not before you can't afford it. Retirement is the ultimate luxury. Selah.

My thought process went like this, 1) no idea how long I will live 2) income from SS reduces the amount I need to draw from savings for all those years between 62 and 70 which extends my other investments. Retired at 61 started SS at 62 2 years later my wife started collecting at 62. Living very comfortably thanks to investments keeping up with withdrawals. Worked for us.

Went on SS as soon as I turned 65 and became eligible for medicare. We actually planned (gasp) for our retirement and even though Covid and health issues have prevented us from the travel we planned to do, we have enjoyed every minute of getting off that work hamster wheel and have never looked back. The key is living modestly and PLANNING for retirement.

Even though my 401 will be very healthy in my 60s (well above what the national average/median is), I am taking SS at 62. That's because I will have an 11yo child. So they get 50% of my FRA ! They'll get that for 88 months. Plus, my wife will get "Child-in-care" and receive 50% of my FRA for about 50 months till they reach 16yo. So while I am taking about a 2k hit from 62 to 70, combined I am making about 35% more than what I get at 70. When my wife's child-in-care ends, I'll make just $120 less then what I'd get at 70. Yes, before I am on medicare at 65 I have to get coverage (plus my family) But we are still ahead of the game. So for me, it's 62.

O God who has heard and seen all my suffering and tortured and tormented pleading justice. Why they did to me?The other day ,at the same time 3 nerses came took blood from my two hands and fainted and another nurse came she said you are too weak you can't get up and she helped me to sit down my unique God breathed in my nostrils. Amen! And 3 times hit my car deliberately by wicked people on the red light. My neck and shoulders and my chest and knee and back got injured but God delivered me and reserved me for His eternal kingdom forever. Amen. Before these girls came by old car and parked deliberately where I parked in the parking lot the car has smoke to destroy me and my car then I drove off my car. My unique God delivered me from dangerous and wicked plans and snares. Praise the LORD. And all my belongs stolen and destroyed by the devil vicious angels and 4 years I have been homeless later sleeping in the car no away to use toilet in the park and evil people follow me to destroy me it happened by organized racists and terrorists active. I had no money to live Sodom and gommora land and I was fired twice because religion violation I have been suffering and tortured and terrified and half dead and my life is from fire pan into fire. I pleading God stand by me! Amen. Some of the wicked ones who hurt me are in the tomb. I have seen when God commanded His rough judgment in the womb and in the land. God almighty is faithful He spoke it came to be and He commanded and stood fast. Ps33:9. Amen! My unique God have heard and have seen my tears boiled oil. I pleading God justice and to fight against my tyranny enemies. I am hurt worse than slavery. I have been treated badly my citizenship never protected me! Freedom and liberty and democracy were taken away from me. Still I am fragile and running for life. God almighty keep me as an apple of an eye and hide me under your wing and guide me by your eyes. Ps17:8 &32:8. Amen!! LORD Jesus my eyes are upon thee come soon to take us home and our eyes are upon God and it is time to act for this dying and broken world. Amen!
